When we say we cover repairs, it means that for any appliance that’s covered under the plan you choose, we will send a local technician to your home to diagnose the problem and get the appliance repaired, with no charge for the service call, no deductible and no charge for parts and labor.

If an appliance cannot be repaired and you have not added GreenBacks Cash, then you would need to replace the appliance. The GreenBacks Cash and Water Heater Replacement add-ons help cover the cost of replacing an appliance when repairs aren’t possible.

Reimbursement amounts vary by appliance—click here to review the amount you will receive, which you can use for any brand or type of replacement you choose. GreenBacks Cash reimbursement applies only to the appliances that are covered under your plan and is limited to a total of $2,500 per year.

The charge for the plan you select will appear on the same account and billing statement as your utility bill. If you are on a payment plan, such as Budget Wise Bill or Low-Income Self-Sufficiency Plan (LSP), you must make your plan payment, including your Home Protection Plus payment, by the due date on your billing statement. If you do not make the full payment by the due date, the amount you pay will go toward your utility balance first. If you need to add to your payment to cover your Home Protection Plus amount, you can call our toll-free call center, and one of our representatives will be able to help you.

For all protection plans and the air conditioning add-on, your coverage will begin 15 days after enrollment. For GreenBacks Cash protection, coverage begins 30 days after enrollment. For the Water Heater Replacement add-on, your coverage will begin 90 days after enrollment.

Yes. Eligibility is open to all Michigan residents. We have DTE technicians throughout the state, so trusted local professionals will be available to you and can repair your appliances regardless of which gas or electric company provides your service.

One card per enrollment. Gift card incentives are for new registrations only. Plans are not available in all areas. Gift cards are awarded based on plan type: $50 for Whole Home, Whole Home Deductible, Platinum and Ultimate Plans; $25 for Core Plus, Kitchen, Laundry, Plumbing, Plumbing Deductible and Pocket Geek Home; $20 for Convenience, Core, Core Deductible, $15 for Basic; $10 for Electric Line Protection, SmartGuard A/C, SmartGuard Furnace and SmartGuard Combo. No diagnostic fees, trip charges or credit card required refers to plans without deductibles. Plans with deductibles are offered at a lower monthly premium, and a $75 deductible, payable by credit card, is needed when you request a repair.
